14 Feb 2018 The storms are hitting Iceland relentlessly it seems and this morning the Iceland Met Offie put out an orange alert for South and South East Iceland. The no.1 road between Hvolsvöllur and Jökulsárlón is closed. All traffic through Hellisheiði and Kjalarnes has also been put to a stop.

13 Feb 2018 Over three hundred SAR team members were hard at work getting cars unstuck during the storms that hit Iceland this weekend. A great number of them were driven by tourists. Half of the problem, is however, Icelanders themselves.

Icelander hangs out washing in shoulder-deep snow

13 Feb 2018 Photographer Rebekka Guðleifsdóttir who lives in Ísafjörður in the West Fjords of Iceland wanted to show her husband, who lives in the capital, how much it had snowed overnight and posted a photo of herself hanging out the washing on her Facebook page.

The couple were stuck for  20 hours on this road by Miðfell which is impassable.

Tourists stuck in a pile of snow for 20 hours

12 Feb 2018 A couple were stuck in their car in a pile of snow on the road east of Þingellir for twenty hours until a park warden found them. The woman is pregnant and was transferred to safety at the Þingvellir service centre.

Rescue teams help stranded tourists in blizzard

11 Feb 2018 It was a busy night for SAR teams in Iceland last night with over 100 rescue team members in 30 teams working across the country.

Pink and dark red means winds of up to  24-30 m/s and purple stands for 16-22 m/s.

9 Feb 2018 Today there's heavy wind and snowfall in North West Iceland and Holtavörðuheiði and Mosfellsheiði are impassable. An easterly storm with snow and wind are expected in South Iceland this evening. Tomorrow, yet another storm is expected in the whole of Iceland.

Holtavörðuheiði, the number one road between South and North Iceland is difficult to pass due to heavy snow.

5 Feb 2018 A man trying to help out another car by towing it in a blinding storm on Hellisheiði was seriously injured when a third car crashed into the second, crushing the man between two vehicles.
