If you are in the central Reykjavik area tomorrow afternoon, you almost certain to happen across a group of sluts. Over 5,000 of them, to be precise.

The 2015 SlutWalk (‘Drusluganga 2015’ in Icelandic) will be held for the fifth time tomorrow. The procession will begin at 2pm from Hallgrímskirkja Church and take participants all the way to Parliament Square (‘Austurvöllur’).

The aim of the event, according to organisers, is to shame the perpetrators – not the victims – of sexual crimes and to emphasise that the behaviour or clothing of victims is never an excuse for such crimes.

The international SlutWalk movement began in the wake of controversial remarks by Toronto Police Constable Michael Sanguinetti, who suggested that “women should avoid dressing like sluts” to reduce the risk of sexual assault.

“There are no excuses for this kind of behaviour and we have zero tolerance towards it,” reads a statement on the Facebook event page for the Reykjavik event.

A programme of music and speeches will take place in the city centre after the walk, with confirmed artists including Mammút, Friðrik Dór, Úlfur Úlfur and Boogie Trouble.
