As many observers may have noticed, posters have been put up all around the capital's busshelters with photos of well-known Icelanders and the words "Ég er drusla," which translates to "I am a slut."

The posters are intended to advertise the Reykjavik Slut Walk taking place on Saturday July 25th. Among the subjects in these photographs are Mayor Dagur B.Eggertsson, musician Magga Stína Blöndal and artist Alda Villiljós. All the posters can be seen HERE.

In a press release from the organisers of the Reykjavik Slut Walk they want to encourage people to attend to take a stand against sexual violence. The aim of the event is to shame the perpetrators, not the victims of sexual crimes and to emphasise that the behaviour or clothing of victims is never an excuse for such crimes.

Over 3,000 people have confirmed their attendance to this year's slut walk on the Facebook event but the organisers hope that this year will set a record of over 20 thousand attendees. "In the past weeks an incredible amount of people have stepped forward to put shame where it belongs. Every person who steps forward and breaks their silence changes our society. It's a revolution that has moved our society," states the announcement referring to the #þöggun revolution on social media where women started to write about abuse they had experienced with the hashtag #þöggun which means "silenced."

The Reykjavík Slut Walk starts at 2 p.m on Saturday July 25th from Hallgrímskirkja church. A programme of music and speeches will then take place in the city centre with confirmed artists including Mammút,  Friðrik Dór, Úlfur Úlfur and Boogie Trouble.
