“There are bright times ahead,” states Ninna Hafliðadóttir, marketing director for the luxury hotel Reykjavík Edition, located next to Harpa Concert Hall.

The hotel is currently looking to hire more employees, whereas 27 people were laid off at the beginning of the year. Ninna states that many among the 27 have been rehired. A total of 34 positions are presently open.

She notes that bookings look good for the spring and summer. Reservations have been made for groups, conferences, conference guests and other tourists.

Not all parts of the hotel have opened yet, but the plan is to fully open it this summer.

Some bars and restaurants have yet to open, and the hotel has only started using 150 out of 253 rooms. The hotel, operated by Marriott International, opened its doors to the first guests in October

“A night club and a rooftop restaurant have yet to open,” Ninna states. Even some floors are not yet being used. To be able to open them, we need to train people for their jobs, Ninna states. The rooftop restaurant will open in May, but an opening date for the night club has not been determined. To begin with, it will be used for private parties only.

“The travel industry will be thriving again, and there is a strong interest in the country. We need to prepare well to be able to receive the tourists,” Ninna concludes.
