Storm winds send Icelandic jet smashing into airport vehicle

Strong winds this morning spun an Icelandair jet full of departing passengers from its parking space and into a service vehicle, it has been reported.

All passengers were on board and the doors closed when the incident occurred, reports Icelandic news website Víkurfréttir (link in Icelandic).

The photo above shows the awesome power of the stormy conditions currently affecting the area – the nose of the aircraft was originally pointing towards the yellow sign visible in the picture above. The wind spun the aircraft around and sent it crashing into a nearby airport service vehicle.

Despite the fact that the damage to the jet was minor, operating airline Icelandair took the precaution of transferring all passengers onto a new aircraft for their flight to Birmingham, UK.
