Work is set to begin this spring on a new 28-room luxury hotel on the coast to the south of Iceland’s famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier.

The hotel will be located at Rauðsbakki and will be the only one of the class and price category in the area, says site owner Sigurður Magnús Sólonsson.

The hotel will be in a prime location, with good views over the glacier, the nearby mountains and the sea. The building will measure 1,250 m2 in a site of 5.7 hectares.

Pains have been taken to ensure the colours and materials used on the outside of the building are as in keeping as possible with the surrounding environment. The architect is Gunnar Páll Kristinsson and interior design is by Sandra Dís Sigurðardóttir.

Work is scheduled to being in March or April.

The hotel will have 28 rooms and dining facilities.
