A few avalanches fell over roads in the Westfjords last night, and the Icelandic Meteorological Office's avalanche watch is monitoring the situation closely due to the avalanche risk.
Hulda Friðgeirsdóttir, from the Icelandic Meteorological Office's avalanche watch, says that some avalanches fell on Kleifaheiði last night, causing problems for cars, but according to the Icelandic Road Administration's website, umferdin.is, the road has been reopened after being closed last night.
Friðgeirsdóttir says that one avalanche fell over a road in Súgundafjörður, and last night a report was received of a small avalanche that reached the road around Súðavíkurhlíð. She says that the source of the avalanche was just above the road.
There is an avalanche risk on the roads around Súðavíkurhlíð and Raknadalsheiði in Patreksfjörður.
"We are monitoring the weather closely and expect to lower the danger level today when the wind dies down. However, there is a lot of loose snow in the area that blows easily. So it doesn't take much for the snow to start moving," she tells mbl.is.
