The producers of the famous Icelandic spirit, Brennivín or Black Death, have released a new version of this classic for Christmas. The new version has a festive red label and the drink is has a colour to it, unlike the clear Brennivín we are used to. This holiday version is aged in sherry and bourbon caskets which adds a flavour of oak and vanilla to the characteristic caraway flavour of Brennivín.
This treatment of the Brennivín has a great effect on the drink according to critics (link in Icelandic). The flavouring is considered a good pair with the caraway, the burning from the alcohol is not as strong as in the normal version and the drink is much smoother.
