Teachers will be organising another support meeting tomorrow at 1.30 pm which means that all classes at elementary school after that time are cancelled. "We hope that we won't have to do this again, people don't like taking this kind of action but needs must," says Ásta Lóa Þórsdóttir, teacher at Árbæjarskóli.

Þórsdóttir says that there is great unity within the ranks of teachers all around Iceland who will be supporting these proceedings by walking out of class tomorrow. She adds that if there is no movement in the wage dispute a strike is likely.

Last week, teachers walked out of class at 14.30. "People have had enough. We are serious. We have to fix the wages so that we people will want to teach. If nothing is done, the schools will suffer serious damage."
