New shopping street for Reykjavik
Reykjavik is to get a new downtown shopping street, a first artist’s impression of which is shown above.
The new street has yet to be given a name and will be created by developing two large blocks between Tryggvagata and Geirsgata (see map below), in the Icelandic capital’s central area.
There will be seven new buildings on the site, each up to six storeys high and with underground car parks, according to CEO of the development company in charge, Gísli Steinar Gíslason.
Two of the buildings are to be designed in the style of old warehouses previously serving the nearby port.
