Reckless behaviour of tourists at Gullfoss

16 Mar 2015 "It's incredible that a fatal accident didn't occur at Gullfoss," it states in a report by The Environment Agency of Iceland. The report describes how tourists visiting Gullfoss have ignored warning and closed signs and walked off the designated footpath on to an icy ledge that hovered above the waterfall.

13 Mar 2015 A storm of around 20 m/s will hit Iceland at around noon today and tomorrow, Saturday, the weather will be even worse. The Iceland Met Office and the Icelandic Civil Protection have issued a storm warning and warn of possible flooding when the snow melts due to heavy rain and warmer temperatures.

Travel conditions will be poor in the south and west of the country tomorrow.

A weather report from the Icelandic road administration says that " A big bang is expected around noon ." People are urged to refrain from travelling today as many roads could becoma impassable.

8 Mar 2015 The no.1 road on Holtavörðuheiði is currently inpassable and dozens of cars have been stuck on the heath for hours in zero visibility. A great number of people are seeking shelter in Staðarskáli, a restaurant, shop and petrol station.

Cold, wet and fun

23 Feb 2015 A group of 37 scouts from Iceland and Ireland have been taking part in a winter challenge. The challenge is certainly no picnic, involving six hour long treks through the snow, staying in tents in a storm and going ice climbing.
