28 Apr 2023 Iceland is in the forefront of Europe for the fourth consecutive year in terms of the number of optical fibre connections. In total, 76.8 percent of households in Iceland are connected, followed by Spain with 73.6 percent and Portugal with 71.1 percent. Our Nordic cousins Sweden and Norway have 67.5 percent of households with optical fibre connections, Denmark 43 percent and Finland 43 percent.

7 Apr 2023 Erla Ásmundsdóttir made her long-held dream of going to sea come true last year and now works as a chef at the trawler Helga María RE-1, owned by Brim. She says the experience of seafaring so far is a total adventure, but reminds me that it’s important to make it special at sea and therefore always keeps a “fancy Friday” on board, as stated in a 200-mile paper of Morgunblaðið.

Here you can see the cross 17 metre high cross barrier last Monday, March 27th, below Drangagil gorge in Neskaupstaður. The avalanche hit the cross barrier at immense speed and the snow was caught in the barrier and was thrown up into the air. Last Thursday another avalance was heeding the same way but was halted before it hit the barrier.

4 Apr 2023 The avalanches that hit Neskaupstaður on Thursday are expected to be the largest in the town’s history. Especially considering how large they would have been, had there not been a support structure in the source areas and a protective barrier down the hill.

The local police chief does not say whether the flood was caused by human movement or not. More and more people are going to the mountains in the area and there is a need for further services and surveillance.
