Boy gives all his confirmation money to charity

20 May 2015 Thirteen-year-old Viktor Andri Hermannsson decided yesterday to give all the money he received from relatives on the occasion of his confirmation this April to the ABC children's charity. He announced his decision to his father saying that he didn't need anything for himself and wanted to give it to children who needed it more.

Around Iceland in 80 hours

18 May 2015 Ragnar Axelsson, also known as RAX, is an Icelandic photographer who was born in 1958. He is a staff photographer for Morgunblaðið and mbl.is and has also shot numerous freelance projects for magazines and had exhibitions all over the world. Most recently, he took the new Leica M Monochrom (Typ 246) for 80 hours all over Iceland.

18 May 2015 "The situation is extremely bad at the pig farm, around 500 piglets are ready for slaughter and we won't be able to wait longer than until tomorrow to begin slaughter," explains Gunnar Þór Gíslason, managing director of Síld og fiskur. Ongoing strike action by State-employed vets has put a halt to slaughtering operations in Icelandic abattoirs.

Blackout blinds for Iceland's midnight sun

10 May 2015 "We sell tons of blackout blinds every spring. It's the must-buy product of the season as the sun always seems to come as a surprise to people," explains Ívar Ívarsson, store director of Rúmfatalagerinn, a home retail store. People with young children who wake up in the middle of the night due to the May sun shining into their bedrooms are eager to buy blackout blinds.

8 May 2015 The Mývatn nature baths have been closed for two days due to strike action by the Icelandic Professional Trade Association (SGS). Over a hundred tourists have come to closed doors. "Tourists can't just come back the next day," says managing director of the nature baths, Gunnar Atli Fríðuson. Whale watching companies in the north have also had to cancel trips due to the strike.
