Toppled Icelandic ex-Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson has been accused of jumping on the Leicester bandwagon, after the team won the English Premier League yesterday.
Gunnlaugsson posted his congratulations to the English team (calling Leicester the ‘Iceland of Britian’ given the similar populations) on their stunning victory on social media yesterday evening.
Guardian sports writer Barney Ronay, currently in Iceland, quickly threw the good wishes back in the PM’s face on Twitter, alluding to the recent Panama Papers scandal and drawing parallels with London mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith.
