“At the beginning of the year, it was announced that I would lead this march as Prime Minister. Now I am no longer Prime Minister but Þingvellir still wanted me,” she told Morgunblaðið.

She mentioned that before she entered politics she had studied how nationality appeared in literature and how Iceland built its identity as a nation in its literature.

“I will discuss Þingvellir as a place in our national memory and will review Þingvellir in Njáls Saga , Þingvellir in Iceland’s Bell , all the national festivals that have been held in Þingvellir and what this place means for me personally,” Jakobsdóttir said, adding:

“I think this is one of the very few places in Iceland that are a part of a national memory for us as a nation.”
