Flights to Húsavík up in the air

It looks like Eagle Air will stop its scheduled flights between Reykjavík and Húsavík at the end of the month. A decision on this has been taken by the airline’s board.
The seat usage of the route is not good enough for this route to support itself on the market’s terms. Eagle Air has been operating a Húsavík flight since 2012, most recently with seven trips a week. In previous years there were more flights.

There are currently conversations with locals and the airline about this measure, although it is unlikely that Eagle Air will continue to fly to Húsavík after October 1. In fact, a booking machine on the company’s website has blocked booking a Húsavík flight for next month.
“As the situation is, we have not received any formal notification of Eagle Air giving up flights to and from Húsavík. In the meantime, the local authorities can’t do much or say anything, except of course reminding us that this flight has made a vital difference to the community here and to any development in recent years, we are waiting for further answers,” Katrín Sigurjónsdóttir, the municipality manager of Norðurþing, told Morgunblaðið yesterday.
