Iceland going to the World Championship after another big win
The Icelandic men’s national team in handball will be among the participants at the World Cup in Croatia, Denmark and Norway at the beginning of next year.
That became clear after a 37:24 victory over Estonia today. Iceland won before the game 50:25 and today’s game was therefore a total formality.
The teams were considerably more evenly matched today than in the previous games in Laugardalshöll. The score was 11:10 after 20 minutes.
Iceland extended the lead at the end of the first half and the score was 18:13. Ómar Ingi Magnússon scored seven goals in the half, as did Orri Freyr Þorkelsson.
Iceland took a ten-goal lead for the first time at 25:15 and was still ten goals clear when the second half was about halfway, 28:18.
The lead was twelve goals with just over ten minutes to go, 31:19. Finally, there were 13 goals difference between the teams, 24-37 win for Iceland.
Orri Freyr Þorkelsson scored nine goals, Ómar Ingi Magnússon scored seven and Óðinn Þór Ríkharðsson six.
