Walks to the eruption site will be closed at 18 PM tonight. The site will be open today until that time. The reason for the closure is that last night was difficult to control the visitors and ensure security.

This is in a notice from the Suðurnes Police.

At 23.30 last night, the eruption area was closed as a group of people failed to comply with the orders of police and rescue teams and entered a designated danger zone. As a result the pedestrian crossing was closed down at Suðurstrandarvegur.

At the busiest time, police estimate that there were around 600 people in the area.

Some people needed assistance last night, after being exhausted after the walk is also reported in the notice from the police.
