The owner of an abandoned vehicle, which prompted rescue teams to conduct a search in the eruption area on the Reykjanes peninsula, has come forward, mbl.is reports.

This has been confirmed by Suðurnes Police Chief Úlfar Lúðvíksson. The man was no longer in the area when he came forward.

The search has, therefore, been called off.

An eruption began in Geldingadalur valley by Fagradalsfjall mountain, on the Reykjanes peninsula, Southwest Iceland, on Friday night. A yellow weather alert is in effect for the area until 2 am tomorrow. In addition, dangerous volcanic gas levels are in the eruption area, making traveling there dangerous.
