Overwhelming Chance of Snowless Christmas
Meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson believes there is an overwhelming chance of a snowless Christmas in Iceland, mbl.is reports. In Icelandic, we call snowless Christmas rauð jól, or literally ‘red Christmas.’
Einar states that for now, weather forecasts indicate that around December 20, snow in the lowlands will start melting.
After this coming weekend, southerly winds will likely become dominating, he explains, bringing us warmer winds from the south, which will melt the snow that’s already here. Until then, we can expect intermittent snow and thaw.
He points out that possibly a high pressure area will be over the country during Christmas, bringing us sunny weather, no precipitation, and temperatures below freezing point.
