The Blue Lagoon, Southwest Iceland, resumes full operation today and will be open every day of the week, mbl.is reports. The geothermal spa, which laid off numerous employees due to the COVID-19 pandemic, recently hired 112 employees. The resort has been open during weekends in May, after being closed for the most part since October of last year.

The entire resort is now open: the Blue Lagoon itself, the Retreat Spa, four restaurants, two hotels, a research and development facility, and the store.

“Bookings are picking up, and we’re getting ready for business to start bouncing back, states CEO and majority owner Grímur Sæmundsen. “We now have 330 employees [after having hired 112], and if all goes as planned and things bounce back as anticipated, they should exceed 400 later this year.”

Former employees have priority when it comes to hiring, and Grímur is pleased to be able to offer them jobs anew.

On its website, the resort stresses that guests waiting for their coronavirus test results are not permitted to use the Blue Lagoon, Silica Hotel or Retreat Hotel facilitieswhich includes all restaurants, common areas, shops, the Retreat spa, and lagoons.
