2017 is set to be a record year for cruise-ship travel to Iceland, with 107 arrivals already announced.

“The market is generally expected to grow over the next few years,” says Marketing and Quality Manager at Associated Icelandic Ports Erna Kristjánsdóttir.

The summer season kicks off with a vengeance on Sunday, with the arrival in the northern town of Akureyri of the second-largest ship of the season, the Celebrity Eclipse.

It will then move on to Reykjavik on Tuesday, the same day as the arrival of the Albatros.

A total of 213 cruise-ship arrivals are scheduled in Reykjavik and Akureyri this summer, bringing all in all some 204,000 passengers.

Advance announcements for ship arrivals in 2017 have already passed the 100 mark, pointing to a record year for cruise-ship travel to Iceland next year.
