Great Fish Day August 8-11
The Great Fish Day will be celebrated in the fishing town Dalvík, North Iceland, August 8-11. This is an annual event, where the residents of Dalvík join forces and offer travelers a free seafood buffet. Dalvík has a population of close to 2,000 people. It is located by Svarfaðardalur valley, known for its natural beauty.
This year, a rainbow street has been created in honor of Reykjavík Pride, which will be celebrated August 8-17.
The festivities officially began yesterday, and today residents are busy preparing the food. A photo exhibition is planned for today, as well as a family walk.
Tomorrow, markets will be open; there will be music and soccer. There are also plans to clean the beach.
On Friday, the Great Fish Day, fish soup will be served in the evening. Numerous events are planned that day, including theater, art and music.
Fish burgers will be prepared on an 8-meter-long grill with 20 gas grill burners. A total of 12 grill stations will be installed, where you can try grilled fish, such as haddock, cod, salmon and cat fish. All these courses come with bread and beverages.
The festivities continue on Saturday, culminating in a concert and fireworks display.
Last year, a record 36,000 guests visited the festival, which has been held every year since 2001.
