A man in his 30s was killed outside his home on the street Rauðagerði, Reykjavík, Saturday night, Morgunblaðið reports. Police received an emergency call shortly before midnight. Resuscitation efforts on the scene proved unsuccessful.

One man was arrested, suspected in the case – a foreign national in his 30s. He has been remanded in custody until Friday, February 19, in the interest of the investigation.

The deceased was an Albanian citizen. He is survived by his Icelandic wife and young child.

According to Morgunblaðið’s sources, the case is very likely connected to power struggle in the underworld of illegal drugs. Gunshot wounds were discovered on the body.

Mbl.is spoke with many residents of Rauðagerði yesterday, none of whom had heard any gunshots. They noticed nothing abnormal until police showed up around midnight. One neighbor suggested a suppressor might have been used on the weapon.

The house, outside which the body was found, was sold late last year. It has three apartments. Neighbors report constant traffic to and from the house since it was sold, raising their suspicions. None of the neighbors interviewed knew the new owners.

The investigation is being given top priority.
