Reykjavík Mayor Dives Into New Swimming Pool
Reykjavík Mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson formally opened a new neighborhood center in Úlfarsárdalur Saturday, mbl.is reports. Úlfarsárdalur is the easternmost neighborhood of Reykjavík, located east of Árbær.
The new center includes a 25-m-long outdoor swimming pool, into which the mayor dived to celebrate its opening. The swimming pool, called Dalslaug, has hot tubs, a cold tub, wading pool and steam bath. It is the eight public pool in Reykjavík. There is an indoor swimming pool as well, which will be used for swimming lessons and training.
The center is one of the largest construction projects Reykjavík City has ever engaged in. It’s about 18,000 m2 (more than 190,000 sq ft), and investment in the project amounts to about ISK 14 billion (USD 106 million; EUR 94 million).
In addition to the pool, the building includes a library and recreational center. They have a joint entrance. The building is adjacent to Dalskóli grade- and preschool.
Next summer, a sports center for the Fram soccer club will open, and later in 2022, an outdoor soccer field will be taken into use.
The library in the new building is the seventh public library in the City of Reykjavík. It is equipped with a recording studio.
