Is dead body missing French tourist?

One of the leads being followed by police in the case of the unidentified dead body found last week is the possibility that it is the body of a 20-year-old Frenchman.

The individual in question came to Iceland last October and never returned to France. He flew to the town of Höfn in South Iceland – close to where the body was found – and was not heard of or seen since.

Police have kept a look-out for the man since French police alerted them of his disappearance, but no formal search has been launched.

The investigation team looking into the case has reportedly sent dental records to France and is working with a DNA laboratory in Sweden. Some time may be needed to confirm any possible identification.

South Iceland Police has received many tip-offs as to who the deceased might be. The missing French tourist is one of the individuals suggested not yet accounted for. Police have not yet ruled out the possibility that the deceased could be an Icelander.
