26 Feb 2015 The no.1 road over Hellisheiði, leading between Reykjavik and Hveragerði has been closed. It is now impassable due to heavy snowfall and wind. Weather is also getting worse on Mosfellsheiði. Tomorrow there will be wind and snowfall in North and North East Iceland.

22 Feb 2015 Today, when 100 days remain until the Opening Ceremony, the mascot of the GSSE 2015 got its name. It will be known as "Blossi" in Icelandic which translates to "Spark" in English. The name is the result of a naming competition which was held among 4th to 7th graders in the country's primary schools.

Stockfish film festival begins today

19 Feb 2015 Stockfish European film festival takes place for the first time this year from February 19- March 1st. Thirty films will be screened at the festival which takes place in Bíó Paradís. "Our aim is to serve filmmakers and film culture in Iceland, show the best in artistic filmmaking and to invite international guests from the industry to take part," says Ása Baldursdóttir, programme coordinator.

28 Jan 2015 Twelve-year old Brynj­ar Karl Birg­is­son, an autistic boy who has constructed a 6 metre long model of the Titanic out of Lego cubes and was featured here on mbl.is news, was filmed by the Discovery channel a couple of days ago. "It really surprised me," said Brynjar's mother. "A lady from Discovery just called us up and asked us if we were up to it."
