Caught three fin whales on the first tour

8 Sep 2023 Whaling vessels Hvalur 8 and Hvalur 9 will be in harbor today with three fin whales after the first tour of the season. The fishing was successful despite blind fog and bad weather. Hvalur 8 caught one fin whale and Hvalur 9 had two fin whales.

22 Aug 2023 Today NOMEX announced the “Top 20 Under 30 – Nordic Music Biz” and this year there are three Icelandic artists nominated. It is Bjarni Daníel Þorvaldsson, Junia Lin Jónsdóttir and Sólveig Matthildur Kristjándóttir who will go from Iceland to accept the award at a prestigious ceremony at the By:Larm festival in Norway on September 14.

Big fire in Hafnarfjörður yesterday

21 Aug 2023 A large fire in a building on Hvaleyrarbraut in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, took place yesterday and firefighters were battling the fire until the fifth hour of the night. Birgir Finnsson, acting fire chief for the Reykjavík Metropolitan Fire Department, told mbl.is last night that the premises are probably completely destroyed.

20 Aug 2023 “We had already decided, four runners to go out in 3:44:02 and it was just going incredibly well, we stayed together right up to thirty kilometres,” says Andrea Kolbeinsdóttir, who became the most successful Icelandic woman in the Reykjavík Marathon yesterday, and also came seventh in the overall standings of all participants that were about 11,000. By 3:44:02 she meant minutes per kilometre, not the total time of the race.

Jason, who now lives in Akureyri, spends his spare time building a house on the other side of the fjord in Vaðlaheidi. When he has time off, he enjoys nature and works on his novels. One is about his Hungarian grandparents, another about Monika in Merkigil farm, and a third is a crime novel about an American who builds a house in Iceland. It’s obvious where he gets that idea from!
