Big fire in Hafnarfjörður yesterday

21 Aug 2023 A large fire in a building on Hvaleyrarbraut in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland, took place yesterday and firefighters were battling the fire until the fifth hour of the night. Birgir Finnsson, acting fire chief for the Reykjavík Metropolitan Fire Department, told mbl.is last night that the premises are probably completely destroyed.

11 Aug 2023 Youths from the Queer Youth Centre are fully prepared for their carriage for tomorrow’s walk. Viktor Lucaforte, a member of the youth center, says the kids are great and extremely imaginative and creative. The idea is that the carriage is colourful, inviting celebration but also having an important message to give.

"There are drivers who drive passengers, and most importantly tourists, without adequate permits," Skúlason says.

8 Aug 2023 A Chinese citizen was stopped by police in Hafnarfjörður this weekend, where he was driving passengers in a bus. It turned out that the driver was not licensed to drive in this country, he had no work permit, was not using a tachograph, and finally the vehicle was still on winter tires with studs.

This means that the lava will stay warmer and may move further, over a larger area. However, the fact that it is now in a closed system does not mean that it will not reopen.
