12 Jan 2015 Icelandic microbrewery Steðji is producing a new beer, Hvalur 2, for the winter month of Þorri. The beer is flavoured with the testicle of fin whales who, according to old Icelandic traditions have been salted and then smoked using horse manure. A whole testicle is used for each brewing.

9 Jan 2015 The tricolor was drawn at half-mast at the French Embassy last night when three hundred Icelanders and French people living in Iceland gathered for a meeting of solidarity. People laid flowers, pens, pencils and candles at the flagmast.

Iceland's Prime Minister has condemned the attack and the President of Iceland, the Mayor of Reykjavík and Iceland's Foreign Minister have sent their condolences.

The survey, sent to ten thousand Icelanders will help to find out whether setting the clock forward one hour will help. Daylight-Saving time is not observed in Iceland which is in Greenwich Mean Time.

5 Jan 2015 Album sales have gone down immensely in the last few years which means that music labels are producing fewer of them. "The grassroots in Icelandic music are suffering as artists receive very little money from Spotify and cannot sell their albums in supermarkets," says Lárus Páll Jóhannesson who is on the board of the Icelandic association of record producers and one of the owners of the 12Tónar label.

2 Jan 2015 A man named Guðmundur Guðjónsson changed his name to Bambi in 2004 and thus became the first Icelander to bear that name. The name Bambi had to meet with approval of the Icelandic naming committee and Bambi is currently the only Icelander with that name.
