Large Crowds in Iceland Protest Invasion of Ukraine
A large crowd gathered yesterday at noon in front of the Russian Embassy in Reykjavík to protest Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, mbl.is reports. At least a thousand people participated in the peaceful, emotional protest, where speeches were given by numerous people in Icelandic, Ukrainian, Russian and English.
Protestors carried the Ukrainian national flag and signs, demanding an end to the war.
There were protests as well in Ráðhústorg square in Akureyri, North Iceland, and in Reyðarfjörður, the East Fjords.
Organizers of the events issued a statement, saying that hundreds of Ukrainians, Russians, Belarusians, Estonians, Lithuanians and Latvians living in Iceland, along with Icelanders, demand a cease-fire in Ukraine.
