Over 200 Icelanders and Icelandic companies feature in the new online ‘Panama Papers’ database opened up yesterday by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).

The new searchable ICIJ database contains information on some 200,000 offshore companies handled by Panamanian law company Mossack Fonseca.

A search for ‘Iceland’ throws up 213 matches. This list includes Icelandic companies found in the now infamous ‘Panama Papers’ and Icelandic individuals who are registered as shareholders or owners of such companies.

Iceland has been in the news in recent weeks in connection with the Panama Papers, the most significant fallout being the toppling of ex-PM Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson and the swearing in of a new government.
