There is still air pollution in the southwest corner of Iceland but it is no longer in the capital area. Now, it is limited to the Reykjanes peninsula, according to Ingibjörg Andrea Bergþórsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Met Office.

“There is only an increase in the value detected on meters in Reykjanes this time and has been this night,” she tells us.

Today and tomorrow, the southeasterly winds are forecast to hit the southwest corner of Iceland. It is predicted to be light rain today, but it might increase by evening.

“The policy on the volcanic smog is directed across Keflavík and Reykjanes,” Bergþórsdóttir says.

Depends on precipitation and winds

Is it expected that air pollution will be lower after today?

“It depends quite a bit on whether it will rain. Only time can tell,” she says.

Wind is another factor and if it starts blowing and raining the air will be able to clear.

Occasional clouds in the northeast

The northeast will have light clouds today and tomorrow, with more clouds close to the coast in some areas, according to a forecast from the Met Office.

Easterly or shifting winds, winds, and cold temperatures are forecast for Friday.

“Mostly bright in the east, but cloudy and dry weather in the west. Rather warm, especially inland.”
