Two earthquakes hit the southwest corner of Iceland at about ten minutes to 11 am. The earthquakes were felt in the capital area and further along the Reykjanes peninsula.

Originated in Trölladyngja

According to the first measurements by the Met Office, the previous one was 4.5 in size, according to Böðvar Sveinsson, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Met Office. It originated at Trölladyngja.

Another one came shortly after, at the size of 3.9, but the origin of the one was close to the first one.

The earthquakes are considered to be triggershocks, which relieve the tension from the crust caused by magma flows on the peninsula.
