A cargo plane from the airline BluBird Nordic, which was traveling from Billund in Denmark to Iceland, was unable to land at Keflavik airport this morning due to the weather and the plane landed in Akureyri a little before nine o’clock.

“The flight director took the decision to land the plane in Akureyri rather than Keflavík and I assume that he took this decision because of the weather in Keflavík,” Guðjón Helgason, the information officer for Isavia, told mbl.is.

Air travel has been disrupted today due to the weather, but a yellow alert is in effect for the capital region, Faxaflói Bay, South Iceland and the central highlands until evening. Departures from Keflavík have been either delayed or cancelled until later in the day, as is the case with flights from Reykjavik airport.
