An earthquake of 3.1 magnitude hit Mýrdalsjökull glacier just before 23 PM last night. The quake is the larger of the glaciers that have hit the glacier this weekend, but before the weekend a seismic swarm began in the area.

Under Mýrdalsjökull is the Katla volcano, one of the largest and most active volcanoes in Iceland.

The quake began Friday night, with the largest quake at a magnitude of 4.4. Over the weekend, activity in the area slowed.

To this end, a total of 25 quakes have been recorded at Mýrdalsjökull glacier in the last two days. Of these, 17 quakes were below one magnitude.
