Two Icelanders Among Forbes’ Billionaires

There are two Icelanders on the 2022 Forbes World’s Billionaires List, published yesterday, mbl.is reports. Among the 2,668 names on the list are those of investor Björgólfur Thor Björgólfsson and entrepreneur Davíð Helgason.

The 2,668 billionaires on the list are worth a collective USD 12.7 trillion.

Björgólfur Thor, 55, is 1,238 th on the list, and his assets are estimated to be worth USD 2.5 billion. Last year, he ranked 1,444 th on the list, with assets worth USD 2.2 billion.

Among the businesses in which he owns stakes are Swiss pharmaceutical company Xantis and Chilean telecom WOM. He also has investments in cryptocurrencies and startups Zwift, Deliveroo and Stripe.

Davíð Helgason, 44, cofounder of the game engine company Unity Software, ranks 2,448 th on the list, up from number 2,674 last year. His assets are estimated to be worth USD 1.2 billion. Some of the world’s most popular online and mobile games were built using Unity’s engine, including Pokémon Go, Among Us and Overcooked.

According to Forbes , he studied physics, Arabic, and psychology at the University of Copenhagen from 1997 to 2001.

America still has the highest number of billionaires in the world, or 735, including Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, who tops the list for the first time. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is second on the list, followed by French business magnet Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, and family.
