Extensive Road Closures in Reykjavík in Coming Days

There will be extensive road closures in Reykjavík and vicinity in the coming days, due to the filming of a Netflix movie. The film production company TrueNorth will not have to pay for the permission to close the roads, mbl.is reports. The road closures are due to the filming of the Netflix espionage action thriller Heart of Stone, directed by Tom Harper and starring Israeli actress Gal Gadot.

We reported yesterday that Krýsuvíkurvegur road on the Reykjanes peninsula, Southwest Iceland, has been closed since yesterday and will remain so until mid-day tomorrow; tomorrow, traffic through Álftanesvegur road on Álftanes point, just south of Reykjavík, will be limited; and on Thursday, filming is scheduled in Seltjarnarnes. Over the weekend and next week, we can expect extensive road closures in downtown Reykjavík and the western part of the city.

Never before has a project of this size been undertaken by film crews in the capital area. A film crew of 600 people, in addition to 300-400 extras, will take part in the project.

According to Chief Inspector Árni Friðleifsson, the safety of residents always comes first when roads are closed, and the closures do not apply to first responders.

TrueNorth is in charge of closing the roads and does not pay those responsible for the main roads any fee for the permission to do so. The closures are, however, done according to rules from those responsible for the roads and from the police commissioner’s Department of Civil Protection.

Filming in downtown Reykjavík will begin Saturday, April 2. Before noon on Saturday and on Sunday, Sæbraut road will be closed between Snorrabraut road and Harpa Concert Hall, and Kalkofnsvegur road will be closed westward to Geirsgata road.

Monday, April 4, and Tuesday, April 5, traffic through streets in the vicinity of Hallgrímskirkja church will be limited, including on Kárastígur, Bergþórugata, Grettisgata, and Njálsgata roads.
