The Hlemmur Square hotel, Reykjavík, has closed. This was announced last night on the hotel’s Facebook page. The owner, Klaus Ortlieb, states he is forced to close the hotel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The hotel opened seven years ago and operated as a hotel, hostel, restaurant and bar.

“We created a place for every age group, for travelers and our community to enjoy,” the statement reads. “We are also proud to have supported the arts and other creative fields in Reykjavík throughout the years.

“Today, with a sad heart and personal disappointment I announce the difficult decision has been made to close Hlemmur Square as of 15. November, 2020. We have sadly not been exempt from the impact of the pandemic that is raging throughout the world, and which has severely affected tourism.”
