Deserted Streets of Reykjavík

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our daily lives in a major way. Its visible effects are apparent in the video above, shot by mbl.is at noon Thursday – a time of day when the streets of Reykjavík are normally bursting with life.

The city’s streets, pools, arenas and malls look deserted, as you can see. Numerous stores have closed their doors, as have restaurants and cafés.

The music accompanying the video is from Arnar Guðjónsson’s album Gray Mist of Wuhan, released four years ago, long before the Chinese city became known for the COVID-19 outbreak. The album was nominated for the Icelandic Music Award that year.
