Icelandic Woman Dies of COVID-19
An Icelandic woman in her early 70s has died of COVID-19, Morgunblaðið reports. This is most likely the second COVID-19-related death in Iceland. An Australian tourist in his late 30s died in Húsavík, North Iceland, March 24. Preliminary autopsy results suggest that he died of COVID-19.
On the website of Landspítali National University Hospital, the following has been posted:
“Monday, March 23, 2020, a woman in her early 70s passed away at the infectious disease unit at Landspítali, after battling long-term illness. Her death occurred in the wake of her illness due to COVID-19. Landspítali sends her family condolences.”
The woman’s son posted a note on Facebook, where he states she fought for her life for a week after being infected with the coronavirus, and he urges the nation to take the threat of the virus seriously.
