Blizzard Conditions in Most of Iceland Today
The Icelandic Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for all but the western and southwestern part of Iceland. The warning took effect this morning and is good through the evening.
There will be blizzard conditions in all the affected areas. The wind speed will be 15-23 m/sec in most of the areas. There will heavy snow and blowing snow, with limited visibility and dangerous driving conditions. Expect some road closures.
Wind gusts in Southeast Iceland could reach 40 m/sec.
There is a high risk of avalanches in Tröllaskagi, North Iceland, and in the East Fjords. In the northern part of the West Fjords, the risk is considerable, and in the southwest corner of the country, it is moderate.
