There are plans to build a new observation deck this winter by Hrafnagjá canyon in Þingvellir National Park, mbl.is reports. Hrafnagjá is on the eastern edge of the graben at Þingvellir, about 7 km east of the Service Center. Almannagjá canyon, on the other hand, is on the west side.

Park Director Einar Á.E. Sæmundsen states that with the new deck, a spectacular view from east to west will be offered. This is a new location for an observation platform, replacing the old one, which was much smaller, and which was taken out of use when a new road was built this summer.

Single parking spots were closed and a new parking lot opened by Hrafnagjá canyon.

Einar anticipates the new observation deck to be ready by spring. He expects the cost of construction to be between ISK 15 and 20 million (USD 120,000-160,000; EUR 110,000-146,000).
