Bus service in Reykjavík will be interrupted today on ten routes, due to the strike of bus drivers. Service on routes 12, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 24, 28, 35 and 36 was suspended during rush hour this morning between 7 and 9, and will be again, between 4 and 6 pm today. These measures, which affect about 15,000 passengers, are to continue on weekdays through the month of April, unless bus drivers, who are members of Efling union, manage to negotiate higher wages before the end of the month.

A number of bus drivers demonstrated near the Hlemmur  bus terminal this morning, demanding a wage increase.

Negotiations are ongoing between various unions and the SA Confederation of Icelandic Enterprise (Samtök atvinnulífsins). Unless an agreement is reached, hotel workers and coach drivers will be going on a three-day long strike, starting Wednesday.
