Record breaking firework pollution this year- fifteen people seek medical attention

Pollution in Reykjavik and municipalities reached 4500 microgrammes per cubic metre on New Year's Eve due to the firewoks. This is a record for pollution on New Year's Eve. 

According to authorities at the National University Hospital, fifteen people had to seek medical attention due to respiratory problems. Most of them had underlying respiratory diseases such as asthma. Patients needed oxygen and medication.

These are more patients than following a volcanic eruption.
