Icelandic rescue teams have a good reputation of helping people in all kinds of extreme conditions. Last week, rescue teams came to the aid of a tourist who had a riding accident near Landmannalaugar and received a big thank you letter which they published on the Landsbjörg Facebook page.

"I want to let you know how very grateful I am," writes the man who adds that he never thought he would be one of those having to be rescued by the Icelandic search and rescue teams.   "Well, that accident happened and my guide called you in to help and bring me down from the mountain. While being in lots of pain an pretty much out of my mind I still recognised what was happening around me, and I must say, I am very impressed with all your work: everything you did was very professional, fast and secure. I felt very safe and in good hands."

He adds that most of all he felt he was treated as an individual and a human tourist and "not just anohter silly tourist."

"It might seem a little thing to you but me it was very important that nobody cut my icelandic sweater open. While on the way down to civilisation, somebody held my hand for a while, I don’t know who it was, but it felt so good, so reassuring."
