Severe Weather in Iceland Today
The Icelandic Met Office has issued weather alerts for the whole country today. All flights to and from Akureyri, Egilsstaðir, Ísafjörður, Bíldudalur, Hornafjörður and Vestmannaeyjar islands have been canceled for today, according to isavia.is .
Parents in the capital area should consider picking their children up at the end of the school day. Recreation activities could be affected by the weather, mbl.is reports.

Orange alerts take effect in the southwest part of the country and in the central highlands at 11 am, and in West Iceland and the West Fjords early in the afternoon. They will remain in effect until evening. Elsewhere in the country, the warnings are yellow, taking effect early in the afternoon and remaining in effect until about 9 pm.
A southeast severe gale and rain are expected in the capital area, with limited visibility and deteriorating driving conditions. Expect main roads to close.
In South Iceland, the Breiðafjörður bay area, and in the Faxaflói bay area, a southeast storm is expected with strong wind gusts near mountains and moderate rain or sleet in the south and in Breiðafjörður, but blowing snow in Faxaflói. Poor traveling conditions.
In the West Fjords, a snowstorm is forecast with moderate to severe snow or sleet with poor visibility. Extensive transport disturbances are very likely and closure of some key routes. Traveling is not advised.
In the northwest, northeast and the eastern coastal areas, a severe southeast gale is expected. Roads will likely become impassable.
A strong gale from the east is forecast for Southeast Iceland with considerable precipitation, first snow, then rain.
In the central highlands, no travel is advised, since a violent storm is expected.
