Severe Weather Continues: Many Roads Closed
Most roads out of Reykjavík and vicinity are closed this morning, as well as a number of roads in other parts of the country, mbl.is reports.
The severe weather that hit the country yesterday afternoon has not yet passed and is causing major transportation problems.

The severe weather caused power outages in many parts of the country last night, and in parts of Mosfellsbær, Southwest Iceland, residents were out of water, Morgunblaðið reports.
In Patreksfjörður, the West Fjords, eight houses were evacuated last night due to a risk of avalanches. In the whole West Fjords region, the risk of avalanches was of concern. A number of roads were closed yesterday, including Öxnadalsheiði, North Iceland, and Hellisheiði, Southwest Iceland.
At least two emergency shelters were opened to people who were trapped in bad weather. One of those was at the Hellisheiði Power Station, Southwest Iceland, where 70 passengers of a bus sought shelter after the bus they were in got stuck on a hill nearby. Another shelter was opened in the town Þorlákshöfn, Southwest Iceland, where up to 100 people, whose cars got stuck on the Þrengsli road, were expected to seek shelter.
About 200 rescue workers have been working hard since yesterday evening, attending to all sorts of emergencies, caused by the severe weather.
