Numerous Roads Closed After Heavy Snowfall
Heavy snowfall in the southwestern part of Iceland overnight has resulted in numerous road closures, mbl.is reports.
The Capital Area Police Department encourages residents of Reykjavík and vicinity whose cars are not well equipped to refrain from driving today.
Numerous cars are stuck in snow this morning, and driving conditions are difficult in most neighborhoods in the capital area. An emphasis will be placed on keeping main roads in the capital area open, according to Superintendent Guðbrandur Sigurðsson. He notes that although the snowfall will taper off, winds will pick up in the afternoon, resulting in the formation of snowbanks in the capital area.

Most roads from the capital area remain closed, including the road over Hellisheiði mountain, the road to Krýsuvík, the road to Þingvellir, and the road to Borgarnes.
