Herd of Reindeer in Djúpivogur: Video

Vala Hafstað

A herd of reindeer was caught on video in Djúpivogur, the East Fjords, on Monday. Grétar Örn Guðmundsson, who lives in Reykjavík, was visiting his in-laws when he spotted the reindeer, mbl.is reports. To him, it was a unique experience.

“That’s the funny thing about it,” he admits. “The residents of Djúpivogur are so used to seeing reindeer in town, but since I’m from Reykjavík, I found it fantastic, not least because I love reindeer.”

He notes that his in-laws’ house is located close to the mountain and is very accessible to the reindeer, since the only fence around it is cliffs.

“[The reindeer] came down there and went through town. They stopped by the hotel, and continued on to the shore, and finally went away,” he relates.

He adds that they had plenty of time to explore and nobody bothered them, since all the residents were inside, due to bad weather.
