Ring Road 1 has been closed by the bridge over the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, Northeast Iceland, due to increased uncertainty and new information from scientists regarding changes in the flow of the river, mbl.is reports.

This was announced by the North Iceland Police.

The road is closed between the Krafla exit in the west and the Vopnafjörður exit in the east. All traffic over the Mývatnsöræfi wilderness is being redirected to the northeast coast, through the towns of Húsavík, Þórshöfn and Vopnafjörður.

Follow road conditions on road.is and on safetravel.is.
